Model Factory

In alignment with the goals of the Ministry of Industry and Technology for increasing productivity in production and accelerating the digital transformation process, one of Turkey's most crucial development agendas is the Bursa Model Factory. The Bursa Model Factory was established in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry to enhance the international competitiveness of SMEs on their journeys toward streamlining, digitization, and energy efficiency. The "Applied SME Competence and Digital Transformation Center," the official opening of which took place on March 9, 2019, operates within the MESYEB facility under BTSO and occupies an existing 1600 m2 closed area.

The machinery lineup of the Bursa Model Factory includes laser cutting machines, press brakes, CNC lathes, CNC milling machines, industrial robots and AGVs (autonomous vehicles) for producing palletized robot carriers. The Bursa Model Factory implements a three-stage program consisting of theoretical training through 19 training modules, experiential training within the Model Factory and consultancy services at the relevant institution. The modular structure also encompasses Energy Efficiency applications.

The vision of the Bursa Model Factory includes not only successfully completing projects in businesses but also nurturing change leaders from within the company's human resources. Towards this goal, a result-based inspection system continues in firms, even if it is not process-based. Since its establishment until the first four months of 2023, the Bursa Model Factory has completed learning-turnaround and project work in 72 businesses, providing training in awareness, learning-turnaround, experiential learning and project topics to 3,128 company employees.

Through university-industry collaboration, a total of 788 students from Bursa Technical University, Uludağ University, Bandırma 17 Eylül University and Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University have received awareness, experiential and practical training on lean production techniques.

As the Bursa Model Factory, efforts are underway to sustain the development of companies with digital transformation applications after establishing the infrastructure for lean transformation. For this purpose, the digital maturity levels of businesses are identified to outline the company's digital transformation roadmap. In this context, the Bursa Model Factory conducts studies on digital transformation applications such as "Dinamo ERP, MES System, Augmented Reality, Industrial Robot Technology, Autonomous Vehicle Technology (AGV), Smart Assembly Gun, Image Processing Systems, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twin, COBOT," etc. Additionally, digital transformation awareness training has been provided to 87 employees from 72 companies, as well as 138 high school and university students through online and face-to-face sessions.
