BTSO has completed the establishment process of new clustering platform with the cooperation of Bursa Textile and Garment Industry R&D Centre (BUTEKOM) and also Uludağ University. Bursa, which is one of the leading cities in home textile sector, has completed the establishment process of Sustainable Home Textile Clustering (SETEK). SETEK’s application is approved by the Science, Industry and Technology Ministry under ‘Clustering Support Program’
FIRST AND ONLY CLUSTERING IN HOME TEXTILE INDUSTRY
SETEK will begin to benefit from the Ministry support after completion of the negotiation period. Also SETEK has the speciality for being the only cluster project that took place during negotiation process in textile sector, under support program. Within the structure of SETEK, there are 43 companies in Home Textile Sector. Beside the business world representatives, there are also academicians, state institutions and non-governmental organization representatives within the scope of the clustering.
“UNION WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL”
Sustainable home textile clustering held its first meeting at BTSO Altıparmak Brach Office. Mr. İsmail Kuş; Vice President of The Board of Directors of BTSO, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Ulçay; Rector of Uludağ University and Mr. Osman Nuri Canik; Vice Chairman of the Uludağ Textile Exporters Association attended to the meeting.
During the meeting Mr. İsmail Kuş stated that through the clustering activities Bursa has obtained the knowledge of common action. Mr. İsmail Kuş reminded of the other clustering projects they have which are; Aerospace and Defense Cluster, Railway Systems Cluster, Baby and Children Clothing Cluster and Wind Turbines Cluster. “The latest cluster Project Home Textile sector is a great success for us. There are nearly 300 companies that are part of our five cluster projects. If we unite we become stronger. Hopefully our companies will become stronger with clustering activities.”
“OUR CONTRIBUTION TO CITY ECONOMY WILL CONTINUE”
Prof. Dr. Yusuf Ulcay highlighted that clustering synergy is an important matter in order to increase the productivity of Turkish Industry and competitiveness. “In the matter of the transition process from science to production and from production to economy we have presented another very important Project to our representatives. I wish that Sustainable Home Textile Clustering will be beneficial to our companies, to our city and to our country. As Uludağ University, we will maintain to provide our support to city economy and its development.”
Vice President of UTİB; Osman Nuri Canik also informed about the business plans they have with cluster member companies.
CLUSTERING CREATES COMPETITIVENESS
Businesses which are performed with the partnership of Local suppliers, universities and research institutes bring cluster members and the sector to a stronger position internationally. On the other hand, Science, Industry and Technology Ministry will continue to provide their support to improve task force market, to build mutual test laboratory, to develop new products and technology under clustering scope.
